The other day the body of a year 7 school boy Chathura Maduwantha who was returning home after the exams in school was found in a well. The police have been able to reveal as to who has committed the murder. The murder has been committed by a friend of the boy from the same class. The friend has confessed that he killed Chathura Maduwantha since he was not willing to share the young parrots which they caught.
Strangled Chathura’s neck with the bag strap and he fell on the ground. I held him by his legs and put him into the well. Chathra’s friend confessed in this manner to the police.
Since Chathura did not return home from school even after few hours lapsed from the time the school ends his parents panicked and launched a search operation around the school and the area with the neighbors. They also inquired from his school friends since they could not find him.
And the friends informed them that Chathura had gone looking for parrots in the neighboring area at around 11 am with his classmates after the exams. The parents together with the police and a large number of area residents searched the area thoroughly. The parents and area residents noticed the floating body in a 7 feet depth isolated well in Kalugoda area situated 1 km away from school at around 10pm.
The post mortem by the judicial medical officer Kumarasiri Mahasen revealed that the death was due strangling of the neck. The boy who left the school with Chathura in search of parrots was arrested along with his father. The father was later released. And the suspected student gradually confessed that there was an argument since they could not share the parrots between them and he has hit Chathura on the face and strangled him. The suspected student’s confession statement further states that he has put Chathura in the well and had left.
