The police stated that the 02 children who went missing from Kotadeniyawa area over a month ago, were found from Meerigama town
The two cousins, who are residents of the Kotadeniyawa - Wattemulla - Banduragoda area, have been missing since November 23.
The police stated that the children had visited a shop in Meerigama on 05 January, for dinner, where the lady of the shop had taken the two children to her house. She had fed the two for the night, and handed the children to the Meerigama police today morning.
Upon further investigation, it was identified that the two children are indeed the two missing boys from Kotadeniyawa.
Accordingly, they were handed over to the Kotadeniyawa police for further investigation.
Public assistance was sought by the authorities to find Dissanayake Mudiyanselage Kaveesha Sandakelum (10) and Jayasekera Mudalige Akila Deduni (12).
The two children were found after 43 days.
The Homicide and Organized Crime Division of the CID and the Kotadeniyawa Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Nihal Thalduwa stated that investigations are underway to trace the whereabouts of the two children during their disappearance and how they went missing.
Although the police released their photographs and information to the media on two occasions, the investigation was handed over to the CID as no information was received.
During the interrogation of the mother of the children, she had also issued contradictory statements.
