She faced this unfortunate fateful incident in the evening when she fell into an inundated uncovered manhole close to the Niththawela road
The 17 year old Fathima Asla a resident of Katugasthota area died when she fell into a 6 feet deep drain behind the bus stand near Nithawela junction in Katugasthota area.
She was accompanied by three of her friends when she came to the bus stand to return home after attending tuition class. Due to the heavy rainfall in Kandy area the drain behind the bus stand was inundated. Her friends stated that she disappeared when she moved aside to make way a vehicle on the road.
Fathima’s body which was drowned near the bus stand was found 800 meters away at the point where the drain water releases to the Mahaweli River.
The drain connects to the Mahaweli River from a place named Elephant bath in Katugasthota area.
The last rights of the body of the year12 student of Bathiudeen school Fathima was conducted yesterday evening at the Katugasthota mosque burial grounds.
