Kondaya has come through the door, brother says through window.
Saman Jayalath, the elder brother of Dunesh Priyashantha alias Kondaya was re-remanded till the 19th this month.
The CID informed the Court that the suspect had made a statement admitting that he abducted the child and murdered her after subjecting her to sexual abuse. The CID had revealed before the Magistrate that the particular suspect had been taken to the venue where the child’s body was found, and that he had been remanded convicted of different incidents earlier as well.
The CID informed the Court today that the suspect had declared that he will admit the full responsibility of Seya’s murder.
Dunesh Priyashantha alias Kondaya who is currently under remand too was brought before the Court by a prison bus. There the Magistrate ordered that he is remanded till the 19th this month till the DNA report regarding him is issued.
This is how Kondaya’s brother had confessed before the police about the incident:
“I got into the house through the open window. The children were asleep. However I exited through the same window carrying the child, and retreated along the sand path.
That day I passed by the house of the child, when I saw her mother watching TV. Yet it was not possible to get inside the house at that time, because everybody including the inmates and children were awake. Then I kept walking till night came.
When I returned the room was lit, and I knew I was going to commit something or other at that time. Then I went to the window and tried to open the pane, which I discovered then to be open. I jumped in, using the bed post as a rung to climb down. Everyone was already asleep. I entered the house furtively and looked for a knife, but could not find one. I was afraid that the woman would scream if encountered without a knife. I changed my mind since I guessed it would have called others and caused a bedlam. The kids were asleep at that time and I decided to take the child and quit."
The suspect had been taken to the doctor following his apprehension who detected several injuries on his body. Sources say that they were caused by the little child’s fists.
When the suspect was taken into police custody earlier in connection with the murder he had said that the crime was perpetrated by his brother. He has also expressed his willingness to give evidence regarding the incident. Accordingly he was released following the apprehension of Kondaya.
