The dead students were identified as Janaka Bandara and Sisitha Priyankara.
However, the Inter-University Students’ Federation (IUSF) claimed that the deaths were suspicious and demanded an investigation. Accordingly, police stated yesterday that the case was handed over to the CID.
Secretary of the Front-line Socialist Party (FSP) Pubudu Jayakody said in a media conference that the students were murdered.
“Since the students died everyone claimed that they were murdered. Police cleared all evidences before the judge went to scene of death. Last year student union complaint to the CID and requested an investigation. The CID did not intervene. Now the police say the case was handed over to the CID.”
