The police state that the motive behind the Wellampitiya triple murder was a feud between two criminal gangs. Initial investigations revealed that the victims were close associates of an ex-gang leader Prince Kolom.

Prince Kolom who was accused of several crimes including man slaughter, extortion and abduction died in a clash with a rival group in 2007.


A group of gunmen who arrived in a three wheeler at a house of Geval Vissa in Wellampitiya opened fire at 11.55 last night.

The three victims aged 19, 24 and 49 respectively died after being admitted to Colombo National Hospital.
