“He has deceived me as well. Such heinous criminals should not be released again.” the suspect’s wife has stated the above. The suspects has divulged the complete information about the incident in his confession to the police
“I was smitten by the girl who came to stay at Jaya uncle house. I saw her two three days. For two to three days I watched her coming home from work. On that particular evening I was at Thilake uncle’s shop smoking two to three cigars awaiting the girls return from work. I noticed a torch light from few meters distance. She was speaking over the phone with someone. She passed by me and went ahead of the road. I discreetly followed her and covered her moth and dragged her to the woods.
Since she was screaming while taking her to the woods I covered her mouth and took her. She would have fainted. I awaited her to regain conscious but she did not regain conscious. I left home drenching.
I told my wife that since the police are looking for me, we will leave the house. I escorted Shashikala and spent the night in an isolated house near the mountain. While we were there Shashikala questioned me as to why I have wounds all over my body. I told her that I killed a man. And the man bit my hand. The next day morning I came home and took my identity card and few other belongings and returned to the woods. We spent the night in a cave.
The next day morning the village was in panic. Police and the villagers had surrounded the mountain since we realized we cannot escape we decided and drank poison. We were apprehended by the police after that. The suspect has stated the above on his confession .
The suspect’s under age wife who was receiving treatment at ward 03 of the Mahiyangana base hospital, due to consuming poison has been discharged. Issuing a statement she has stated to the police that maximum punishment should be given to him and he should not be released. She has further stated that she did not know he has killed girl, he told me that since a man bit his finger he killed him. I left him saying that I cannot live with you if you had killed a man.
I went to the woods again with Suranga since I was frightened. It was later that I heard that a girl has been killed. He deceived me as well and took me to the woods. While stating to the police that Suranga has not done only a single offence, she has sensitive enough to request to see a photograph of the murdered girl. Mahiyangana police is conducting further investigations and court work also is conducted.
