An Indian court has sentenced Bollywood star Salman Khan to five years in jail for killing a homeless man in a 2002 hit-and-run driving incident in Mumbai.
Bollywood superstar Salman Khan broke down in court after the conviction in 2002 hit-and-run case. Salman Khan was driving the car, and he was under the influence of alcohol and behind the wheels without a licence, Indian Court judgement stated.
The man was among five people who were run over in the incident.
The actor was charged with culpable homicide.
Khan had said his driver was behind the wheel, but the judge said the actor was driving the car and was under the influence of alcohol at the time.
Legal experts expect the actor to appeal against the verdict.
The actor is one of Bollywood's biggest stars, appearing in more than 80 Hindi-language films.
Salman Khan who faced the biggest judgement of his life today at Mumbai's sessions court was standing alone in the corner, while his lawyer Shrikant Shivade was arguing in his defence.
Till last moment, Salman Khan Khan maintained that he wasn't driving the vehicle on that unfortunate night of September 28, 2002, when the accident happened.
