The Kahathuduwa police were able to reveal such an incident of this nature and arrest two persons in connection where an attempt was made to snatch away a gold chain of a young woman in Polgasowita area.
The police were able to reveal many other such instances carried out by the arrested two suspects on further inquiring them.
Investigations revealed that the two had snatched 32 gold chains in 10 police jurisdictions in the western province.
The suspects have conducted the snatching using cycles which were stolen by them in the areas where they carried out their operations and later on abandon them in various other places.
The Maharagama police have handed over the Kahathuduwa police a CCTV footage which depicts the suspects snatching a gold chain from a university student after attacking her in a road in Mahal Araawa area.
On further inquiring the suspects they have stated that the stolen gold chains were sold to a businessman in Bandaragama area. Later on the Kahathuduwa police have arrested the above businessman as well.
