The number of COVID infections reported yesterday fell below the 1,000-mark for the first time in 83 days. Previously, the daily COVID infections fell below 1,000 on 06 July with the report of 869 cases.
With the identification of 983 COVID cases yesterday (27), the total number of cases reported climbed to 514,592.
The Director-General of Health Services has confirmed 51 COVID deaths for 26 September, increasing the death toll to 12,731.
Among the deceased, 22 females and 29 males were included.
Ten (10) persons, which includes five females and five males between the ages of 30 and 59 were also reported.
Above the age of 60, 41 COVID deaths were reported, which includes 17 females and 24 males.
A discussion was held yesterday under the patronage of Finance Minister Basil Rajapaksa regarding the recruitment of public and private sector employees from the 1st of this month.
It is reported that the discussion was held with the participation of Minister of Labor Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella and the Minister of Transport Pavithra Wanniarachchi as well as the Secretaries of those Ministries and the IGP.
It is proposed to call public servants at 09:00 a.m. and private sector employees at 10:00 a.m. from 01 October.
However, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Service, Provincial Councils and Local Government JJ Rathnasiri stated that steps will be taken to inform the relevant decisions soon.
