On Attorney General's advice former Governor of the Western Province Asath Salley has been arrested by the CID over a Speech made by him on 10.03.2021
 
The Minister of Public Security Rear Admiral Sarath Weerasekera had previously stated that the CID has been informed to arrest the leader of the National Unity Front Azath Salley who made a controversial statement regarding the Muslim law.
 
Several parties lodged complaints against his statement with the CID and the Police Headquarters.

Representatives of the National Freedom Front and the Buddhist Information Center also lodged a complaint with the CID  demanding the immediate arrest of Azath Salley.
