The Leader of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, MP Rauf Hakeem has been quarantined after it was confirmed that he was infected with the coronavirus.
15 MP's of the ruling party and the opposition who were close associates of MP Rauf Hakeem were also isolated.
All of them have been instructed to undergo PCR tests.
Gayantha Karunatilake and Thalatha Athukorala from Samagi Janabalavegaya and M.A. Sumanthiran of the Tamil National Alliance (TNA) have been quarantined.
Also MPs, M. Rasamanickckam, Faisal Qasim, M.M. Haarris, M.S. Tawfiq and Nasir Ahmed have been quarantined.
Also, the chamber of Parliament was disinfected yesterday (10).
Coordinating Secretary to the Prime Minister Kumarasiri Hettige has also been infected with the coronavirus.
He had arrived at the Parliament complex on Friday the 8th, according to a statement issued by the Parliamentary Communications Department.
Accordingly, several members of the staff of the Leader of the House have been identified as his close associates.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka's Ambassador to the United States Ravinatha Ariyasinghe and four members of his staff have been diagnosed with coronavirus.
They are currently under self-quarantine.
However, it was announced that the Sri Lankan Embassy in Washington, DC will reopen today.
