A person who had come to a bank in Panadura at about 5.30 in the evening had presented a cash deposit slip to the cashier.
The following words were mentioned in the slip: “I possess a firearm, I will shoot you; let me have all the cash, if you apply the warning signal you’ll be shot directly”.
However the person who had robbed 5 lakhs in this manner was arrested by a policeman in Panadura who was in duty in the vicinity of the bank.
The apprehended person is a youth of 24 residing in Maligawatta, Colombo.
According to the police he had had no firearm in possession; and inquiries had revealed that he had been a medical student at the University of Moscow before having returned to Sri Lanka in 2011.
Permission has been obtained to produce him before the Panadura Court and detain him in police custody for 7 days for inquiry purpose.
