Statements with regard to the murder of four-year old girl Sadevmi in Kotadeniyaava in Divulapitiya in Gampaha have been recorded from her parents, relatives and residents.
Acting police media spokesman SSP Priyantha Jayakody said that further investigations have been extended based on these statements and specialist evidence deploying Intelligence Officials as well.
Meanwhile the post-mortem on the deceased child’s remains is scheduled to be held by the Negombo judicial medical officer today.
Seya Bakmeedeniya had gone to sleep with her grandmother on Friday night.However, the father of the child Upul Nishantha stated that the girl has gone missing since early morning on Saturday.
When her lifeless body was discovered by the police she had no clothes on and the vest she had been wearing was wrapped round her neck.
Records state that the father of the murdered child is a school teacher who had previously been under remand for an incident regarding child abuse.
The police says that investigations are carried out in multiple dimensions to find out whether the murder was committed as a revenge by the party of the child or whether it involved another incident.
“No noise was heard that night. The dog who barks even to pedestrians on the road was silent. There is a window in the room where the children including myself sleep. One pane in the window is without grills. Thieves might have taken my daughter through that window. She was to go to school next year and her birthday was due next 16th. What we’ve had to celebrate instead of a birthday is a heinous crime…” says Seya’s mother.
It was revealed that the window in the room had one grill-less pane since its grills had been removed to enter the house at an instance when the key of the main door had gone missing.
The pant the girl had been wearing the previous night had been found on the bed. Police canines were deployed in the search and the animal had walked 100m forward from the house and back again. Who committed the crime still remains a mystery; but the police says he would be discovered and arrested very soon.
