An Emirates A380 aircraft landed at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) Katunayake today at about 4.30pm, to celebrate the BIA’s recently resurfaced and upgraded runway.
Minister of Transport & Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva was at the airport to greet Abdul Hameed Abdul Fattah Kazhim Al-Mulla, UAE Ambassador to Sri Lanka and Emirates’ Senior Vice President Commercial Ahmed Khoory who were on the flight, the first A380 commercial flight to the country.
This air craft has been manufactured in France and could carry 540 passengers at a time.
Currently, there are 96 air crafts of this manner, and the owners have ordered 48 more to be bought.
