A gang of 5 assaulted two policemen while  checking  them near the Seeduwa exit gate of the Katunayake-Colombo Express way.

Seeduwa police said that the persons concerned  were behaving suspiciously  near a motor car and had figured out they were changing the number plates of the vehicle.Police said that five persons assaulted the policemen as the policemen inspected the suspects identity cards.


The suspects  had fled in the two motorbikes which belong to the policemen along with the firearms that was in the motor vehicle.

A senior police spokesman of the Seeduwa police said that they managed to take one of the suspects into custody last night itself.
