A 16-year-old female student was shot and hospitalized in Daladapura area in Thalawa, Anuradhapura.

She was thus shot at 7.35pm on Friday (01), when she was home with her father.


P. Madushani, a student at the Thalawa Maha Vidyalaya, was first rushed to the Thalawa Rural Hospital and later transferred to the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital. Her condition is not critical, hospital sources said.

Police said she was shot by a man who was near the fence at their house. He has fled the area after the shooting.

The reason behind the shooting is not revealed as the Thalawa police hunt for the shooter.
