A group belongs to joint opposition is staging a protest against Finance Minister Ravi Karunanayake over the recent increase of Value Added Tax (VAT).

UPFA MP Rohitha Abeygunawardena and MP Sriyani Wijewickrama have been injured during the protest.


Sources report that MP Abeygunawardena has been admitted to a private hospital in Colombo while MP Sriyani Wijewickrama is receiving medication at the Colombo general hospital.

MP Shehan Semasinghe said that the MP Abeygunawardena was injured while the protest march was moving from Lake House roundabout to the Central Bank past the World Trade Center.
