JVP MP and party propaganda Secretary Vijitha Herath has been acquitted from drunken driving charges by Colombo Chief Magistrate this morning.

The JVP MP was ordered to pay Rs. 1500 government fee for other two charges.


Police stated that the vehicle in which the MP was traveling hit a telephone post on 30th May night near Rajagiriya junction. It is reported that the accident occurred as the MP had fallen asleep on the wheel.
