The laboratory at the University of Moratuwa has been completely destroyed due to a fire that erupted yesterday.
A Unit Officer from the Fire Brigade of the Moratuwa Municipal Council noted that a roof of the building had also been damaged.
It was reported that the fire erupted around 7:30 pm yesterday. It lasted for about two hours and 4 firefighting apparatus were used for the containment.
The officer added that suspicions have arisen that the cause for the fire was a chemical leak.
However in order to clarify the cause, an investigation into the matter has been initiated.
The loss incurred due to the fire has yet to be determined.
