President Maithripala Sirisena a short while ago appointed Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Pujith Jayasundara as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), the Presidential Media Sources stated.

Earlier, Senior DIG Pujith Jayasundara was nominated for the post of IGP by a majority of the Constitutional Council members as well.


Acting IGP S. M. Wickremesinghe, and Senior DIG Chandana Wickremeratne were among the three candidates who were nominated for the post.

Jayasundara is the 34th IGP of the Sri Lanka Police.
