The tense situation near Homagama Magistrate's Court continues with three monks reportedly threatening to self-immolate in protest against the arrest of Bodu Bala Sena (BBS) General Secretary Galagodaatte Gnanasara Thera.
Gnanasara Thera was remanded till February 9 by the Homagama Magistrate on three charges including threatening a public official. Protests erupted after the decision.
A group of Buddhists monks surrounded Homagama Magistrate Court, protesting against the decision to remand Galagodaaththe Gnanasara Thero. Some of them tried to enter the court premises, but were prevented by the police who closed the gates to prevent unauthorized entry.
Several monks jumped in to the court premises over the wall and other monks blocked the road.
