World famous Singer Enrique Iglesias came down to Sri Lanka for a concert which was organized by the Company Live Events which is owned by Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jeyawardena who are two Popular Cricketers who represented Sri Lanka.
It has been criticized on various web sites since many programs which were lined up were not suitable to the Sri Lankan culture.
President Maithripala Sirisena vociferously criticized the above participating at a function organized to give away certificates for All Ceylon Daham Pasal Students. Asgiri Chapter Mahanayake Galagama Sri Attadassi thero was present at the above function.
President Maithripala Sirisena stressed that anything which is detrimental to the culture of Sri Lanka will not be allowed.
He further expressed in this manner….
“At a Music Concert held at Colombo last week, where a foreign Singer was brought down and tickets were sold at price ranging from Rs. 5000 to Rs. 50,000. And was facilitated to intoxicate oneself as per the ticket price, but many heinous incidents was taken place.”
"These events are organized with the knowledge of the government. But, before giving approval for such events, the state authorities should know what the organizers intend to do!" he added. The President also referred to the incident where a girl threw her bra at the singer who was performing on the stage. President Sirisena also emphasized that being a Buddhist, one should never let these kind of activities to be taken place in Sri Lanka in future.
He said he would not allow any party to mislead the country's youth while slamming at the organizers of the show. The President added that the organizers of such indecent shows should be 'whipped'.
