The villagers are still in fear though the murderer has been apprehended. We still see a situation where the villagers in the area are yet in fear of the murder incidents even after the suspect in connection with many murder cases which were unsolved for years has been revealed by the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
It was revealed at the Palmadulla courts that the suspect named Jayalath Neil Lakshman arrested in connection with the murder of mother of two children named Nagam Papu in Kotakethana Opawatte area,is connected to 6 other women’s murders as well.
It was exposed with lots of other information connected to the murders of women which remained a mystery. However, whoever travels there could clearly see that the area residents still live in fear regarding the murders of women which took place in the past.
The police have situated a police check point and a special task force camp for the safety of more than1400 families which live in the Kotakethana –Dimbulwalala Opawatte area.
Now a deep sense of loneliness prevails in the houses where women were inhumanely murdered. The suspected murderer Jayalath Neil Lakshman’s mother states regarding her son that “He did not do anything knowingly, find out from the villager as well.
He has admitted to have committed all the murders stating that in Warapitiya two sisters were killed, and a mother and daughter were killed here.” “We are bewildered and are unable to solve these problems.”
While she stated with tearful eyes about the murders which her son has said to have committed, the suspect who was produced at the courts was ordered to be remanded till the next 29th.
However the villagers are still intimidated in airing their views in this regard to the media.
