The Hiru News have received a report from the Ginigathhena that a husband had stabbed his wife to death with a sharp weapon.
The victim was a mother of two from the Sellipigama area in Mahapathana, Ambagamuwa in the Ginigathhena police division.
An argument between the pair on 27 January afternoon had escalated and the husband had hit his wife in the neck with a sharp weapon. The suspect had informed the police about the incident through his brother yesterday (28).
Police have found the body of the mother and arrested the suspect in connection with the incident.
During the interrogation, the suspect has stated that the murder took place over an illicit affair his wife had for some time.
The suspect further confessed to the murder and further stated that he had seen his wife traveling in a three-wheeler with her boyfriend in Nawalapitiya on the morning of the murder. The suspect had allegedly assaulted his wife's boyfriend and wife at that time and the dispute had escalated when the wife had arrived home.
He had further confessed that the wife had tried to hit him with a sharp weapon, which he had grabbed and used to murder his wife.
The body will be taken to the Nawalapitiya General Hospital for a postmortem after the Hatton Magistrate's examination, police said.
The Ginigathhena Police are conducting further investigations.
