The annual festival of the St. Anthony’s Shrine in Kochchikade is scheduled to be held today. The church which was closed with the Easter Sunday attacks was reopened yesterday after renovations under the patronage of His Eminence Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith and blessed yesterday.
That was 52 days subsequent to the Easter Sunday attacks.
A special Mass was held after the reopening of the Church. Relatives of those who died in the bombing there as well as some of the injured persons were present on this occasion. The Archbishop made a speech on this occasion.
The Church administration has decided not to hold the annual festival on a grand scale this time due to those who died in the bomb blast on Easter Sunday and persons who sustained injuries.
Accordingly, certain rituals such as raising the flag pole were not carried out yesterday and the festival mass was held at 10.00 am today under the auspices of His Eminence Archbishop Malcolm Cardinal Ranjith.
