The shocking statement given by the alleged girlfriend of the youth who self-mobilized
A youth died after he self-mobilized, over a love affair, in Moratuwa area. It was reported that the person he was in love with had rejected his proposal causing him much heartache leading to the tragic incident.
However, giving evidence the father of the deceased and the woman who was involved in the case has given the following statements.“The deceased is my child. He was having a love affair. We advised him to stop it. But he did not. He has brought this female to our house in several occasions. But we did not like it. On 26.05.2016 I received a phone call saying that he had set himself on fire.”
The 24-year-old woman, who was alleged to have had an affair with the youth said, “I worked in a private company. I resigned from the job in 2013. During that time the deceased came to work there. I got to know him then. First he took my camera and then took pictures of me, edited them and started to frighten me saying he’ll show them to my family. I went back to work in 2014.
“Then he forcefully took me to places threatening to show the pictures to my family. I did not go to work for a month. Because he was a nuisance I resigned. Even then he did not let me be. He started to call me on the phone and asked me to come to places. He also forcefully took me into rooms.
“Later I started to tactfully avoid him. I started work at another place. In December 2015 I called his mother and explained about everything. She took Rs. 12,000 with sugar, onions and other items. She said that they were for a ritual in a Dewalaya. Still nothing happened. In September 29 last month he showed the pictures to my family members. He wanted to chase my husband from my house. But my husband did not get angry and leave.
“He started to pester me again. I warned him that I will go to the police. He then told me that my family will break if he showed those pictures. In December 2015, when I refused to go with him one day he assaulted me on the road and dragged me by my hair to the bus. I came home crying.
“Again I told his mother about what happened. She sent his father to stop him from taking me. He slapped me in front of his father. His father did not say anything against it. Whenever he needed me he started to pester me. Hit me. When I could not take it anymore, I told him that I am going to complain to the Children and Women Bureau. He got scared after that.
“On 23.05.2016 he came to my shop and asked me not to stop this relationship. I ignored him. Then he ate the glass that was placed on my table. Blood started to ooze out of his mouth. He vomited. Then I came back home after work.
“I went to work on 16.05.2016 at around 10.00am. When I was coming he asked me to stop the bike. He held the brake of the bike and stared without saying anything. He said we should go to another place and talk. Then we came to the place where this incident happened.
“He did not say a word. He had a bag with him. I told him to say whatever he wanted because I was getting late. Still he did not say anything and made me stay without saying a word. Then I told him to stay and that I was going to the police. After that he took out a bottle from his bag and poured petrol on his head. I screamed. Nobody came close.
“He tried to light three to four match sticks. They did not light. The matchstick he used next did. He burnt himself with it. He tried to burn me when his body was ablaze. I put my bike into a store there. He came running behind me and threw his burning shirt on me. But nothing happened to me. Then a security officer who was there pulled him out and closed the gate.
“I also went out later. And then I saw him fallen into a drainage. A man was pouring water on him from a bottle.
“He then came walking. People who were there asked me to go to the police. He screamed pleading to help him. He was taken into a hospital in an ambulance that arrived there.”
