The latest report by the World Health Organization revealed that Sri Lanka’s alcohol consumption has increased further.
It also points that Sri Lanka’s population between 15 to 19 years of age amounted to 12.4 Percent of the population and 47.8 percent of Males in that age group were heavy drinkers.
Sri Lanka’s per capita alcohol consumption stood at 7.7 Litres way above the average for South East Asia region which is 4.5 Litres.
Among drinkers, the per capita consumption stood at 18.9 Litres among males and 6.7 Litres among females.
Sigiriya Police said that a farmer who took food for his dog who was protecting his tomato cultivation last night (27) was killed by a wild elephant.
The deceased a father of two was a resident of Kibissa, Sigirya and killed in a wild elephant attack at about 10.30 pm last night when he was on his way to his tomato cultivation.
The father had been on a bicycle with a flashlight when two elephants who were eating in a field nearby had suddenly jumped on to the road and attacked him. An eyewitness had seen the two elephants attacking this farmer and assaulting him and playing around with him for half an hour.
A couple connected to a murder was taken into custody at the Katunayake Airport.

The deceased are 39 year old businessman Nuwan Indika Jayasuriya and his daughters, six year old Nesathma Sahandi Wijesuriya and 4 year old Nadeesha Inomi Wijesuriya.

Late Nuwan Indika Jayasuriya’s wife Hasini Wijesuriya who also faced this disaster is in a serious condition and being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Ampara Hospital.
