The CID submitted a motion to courts yesterday with regard to investigations conducted into arrested Dr. Safi Siyabdeen.

The motion requests permission for 147 mothers who claim they have been sterilised to undergo the H.S.G test.

Previously the CID had requested for approval, however owing to the protest of lawyers appearing on behalf of the plaintiff, the court proceedings were postponed to 11th of July.

Meanwhile, during a media briefing held in Colombo yesterday MP Udaya Gammanpila expressed his views further regarding the matter.

He noted that a presidents commission should be appointed to investigate into this incident.
In an accident that happened last night at Ethagama – Kalutara, the mother, father and two children of the same family sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital.

Our Correspondent said that this accident took place when a car hit a parapet wall.
The Mother in a family of 4 who was rescued after been washed away in ocean currents in Yala – Kirinda last week has succumbed to her injuries.

The 34 year old female was first admitted to the Debarawewa hospital, then transferred to the Ampara hospital and later on was transferred to the ICU of a private hospital in Colombo.

Her husband and 2 daughters also died in the tragedy.

The latest report by the World Health Organization revealed that Sri Lanka’s alcohol consumption has increased further.
It also points that Sri Lanka’s population between 15 to 19 years of age amounted to 12.4 Percent of the population and 47.8 percent of Males in that age group were heavy drinkers.
Sri Lanka’s per capita alcohol consumption stood at 7.7 Litres way above the average for South East Asia region which is 4.5 Litres.
Among drinkers, the per capita consumption stood at 18.9 Litres among males and 6.7 Litres among females.
Sigiriya Police said that a farmer who took food for his dog who was protecting his tomato cultivation last night (27) was killed by a wild elephant.
The deceased a father of two was a resident of Kibissa, Sigirya and killed in a wild elephant attack at about 10.30 pm last night when he was on his way to his tomato cultivation.
The father had been on a bicycle with a flashlight when two elephants who were eating in a field nearby had suddenly jumped on to the road and attacked him. An eyewitness had seen the two elephants attacking this farmer and assaulting him and playing around with him for half an hour.
A couple connected to a murder was taken into custody at the Katunayake Airport.

The Police Media Spokesman’s office said that this couple was arrested at about 11 last night when they arrived in this country from Australia, by officers of the Immigration and Emigration Bureau at the Airport.

In an accident that took place this morning (27) at the 8 Mile Post at Jayawindagama involving a bus which was plying from Pelampitiya to Yatiyantota, 28 persons were hospitalized.

The funerals of the father and his two daughters who were swept away to sea and killed in a rip-current at Kirinde coast will be held today at the Hatton, Kudagama General Cemetery.

The bodies of the three individuals were brought to their residence on Saththu Niwasa Road in Hatton at midnight yesterday (24).

The deceased are 39 year old businessman Nuwan Indika Jayasuriya and his daughters, six year old Nesathma Sahandi Wijesuriya and 4 year old Nadeesha Inomi Wijesuriya.

Late Nuwan Indika Jayasuriya’s wife Hasini Wijesuriya who also faced this disaster is in a serious condition and being treated at the Intensive Care Unit of the Ampara Hospital.

In a vehicle accident that took place in Ahangama – Dikkumbura – Habaraduwa a student was killed and three others were hospitalized
