The Supreme Court rejected the petition filed by her, challenging the order given from the Court of Appeal.

The Court of Appeal last year ordered the dismissal of the petition since the petitioner failed to present reasonable grounds to proceed. The Supreme Court yesterday ruled that there was no error in the order given by the Court of Appeal.

The SLPP refuted certain media reports today that its alliance has decided not to give nominations to monks in the forthcoming General Election.

When our news team referred to a report published by a national newspaper in this matter, State Minister Keheliya Rambukwella stated that no such decision has been taken by the alliance led by the SLPP.

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi arrives in Colombo on Monday morning on a brief official visit while Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov arrives on Tuesday morning, according to the announcements by the Chinese and Russian missions in Colombo.

They are both here on tight schedules for separate top level meetings with the Government to discuss the entire range of bilateral relations.

Three Sri Lankan female students died of smoke inhalation in Baku - Azerbaijan.

All three victims are female students at Western Caspian University in Baku.

Reportedly, the victims are aged between 21 to 25 and have been living in the same apartment for two months.

They died from smoke inhalation as a result of a fire caused by an electric short circuit.
Parliamentarian Ranjan Ramanayake who was arrested yesterday by the Western Province – South Region’s Crimes Division is questioned further.

He was arrested yesterday over charges of possessing an unlicensed firearm and DVD’s containing pornographic material.

The Parliamentarian will be produced before the Nugegoda Magistrate today.
The Elections Commission said that the 2019 voters registry will be certified by the 24th of this month.

Accordingly, the forthcoming general election will be held as per the 2019 voters registry.

A Senior Spokesperson at the Elections Commission said that in case the President dissolves Parliament on the 1st of March, the general election can be held between 23rd April and 6th May.
