The Police also added that the first victim was discovered in the Beira Lake, behind Roy Inn, in the Slave Island Police Division. The deceased, identified as Geegana Gamaarachchige Chandrasena aged 54 was resident from Athgala, Gampola and an electrician who used to work in Colombo. The Police also added that the magisterial examination took place yesterday.
Another dead body of a male was also found afloat in the canal by the Open University. The police also added that the deceased was aged between 25 years. The deceased was not yet identified.
Meanwhile, the dead body of a female was seen floating on the Castlereagh tank on Sunday (29). This body was identified to be that of the schoolgirl named Mohan Raj Priyanthini who disappeared from the Castlereagh plantations three days prior.
She was a grade 13 student at the Castlereigh Tamil School. It was reported that the girl went missing when her parents arrived home after attending a kovil ceremony on the Friday (27). A mobile phone believed to belong to the deceased girl was also found near the Castlereagh tank.
The cause of her death has not yet been revealed. Her mysterious death is currently being investigated by the Norton Bridge Police to ascertain whether her demise was a result of an accident, murder or suicide.
Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
