Hiru Gossip has received a video recorded by Late Venerable Maduluwawe Sobitha Thero prior to his death.

In the video, the Thero specifically calls for his body to be donated to the “Akshidaana Sangamaya” (Eye society) and not to be cremated.

The Chief Prelate also called for his body to be handed over within a single day to the said organization and said that he was vehemently opposed to any fanfare.


“I am completely against any sort of cremating ceremony Once you are dead that’s the end of it. I just want my body to be donated to the Akshidana Sangamaya so that they could take any organs necessary and to bury the rest” he said.

He further said that he does not want any expenditure with regard to his funeral.

“I don’t want millions spent on a casket, nor do I want committees appointed to organize my funeral. Why do we need to spend so much money on them? My body is a ‘mala kuna’ and that’s how it should be treated. I am against all of this unnecessary nonsense” he said speaking on the subject.
