The DNA reports of the 15 persons who died in an explosion at Saindamarudu are due to be handed over to the Court and to the Criminal Investigation Department on Friday.


A spokesman of the Government Analyst’s Department said that preparing of the DNA reports is in the final stage as of now.

These individuals died by exploding bombs subsequent to a shootout at a house, with Security Forces on 26 April, in the Tsunami Village at Ampara – Saindamarudu.

Those who died thus were alleged to be the father of Zaharan the Leader of the National Thowheeth Jamath organization, his two brothers and the wife of one of the brothers.

In addition bodies of six children were also found at the house later. Although DNA samples had been obtained for investigations since they had deteriorated, based on a Court Order, the bodies were exhumed on the 7 and samples were newly obtained for DNA testing. This was carried out in the presence of the Magistrate of Ampara Asanga Hettiwatte.
