The government has declared today a national day of mourning in view of the terrorist attacks which took place targeting churches and hotels.
The president's media unit issuing a communiqué noted that the decision was taken when the national Security Council convened yesterday under the patronage of President Maithreepala Sirisena.
Meanwhile, the government requests all state institution to hoist the national flag at half mast and to observe a three-minute silence from 8.30 to 8.33 am in memory of the departed.
The government also decided to gazette the clause pertaining to terrorism prevention under the state of emergency regulations which was active from midnight yesterday.
The communiqué issued by the president's media unit further notes that the decision was taken to ensure the safety of the public by assigning authority to the police and army.
Police curfew which was active from 8 pm yesterday to 4 am today has been lifted.
The government took measures to impose police curfew yesterday to maintain a peaceful situation in the country.
