The second accused in the murder of a 52-year-old mother and her 17-year-old daughter of Kotakethana in Kahawatta has been acquitted after 6 years in remand prison.
The Colombo High court acquitted the accused, Ashoka Chandani Kumari alias Batti after determining that there was insufficient evidence against her.
The High Court Judge, Vikum Kaluarachchi ordered to hear the case against the first accused, Lokugamhewage Darshana alias Raju on 1st of November.
Nayana Nilmini and Kavindya Chaturangi were murdered at Kotakethana in Kahawatta on 31st of January, 2012.
Later, a married couple, Lokugamhewage Darshana and Ashoka Chandani Kumari were arrested in connection with the crime.
