The Court of Appeal has issued a stay order, preventing any legal action being taken against former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa under the Public Properties Act, until 6th of December.

Gotabhaya Rajapaksa filed a Writ Petition yesterday (28) seeking a stay order against the ongoing investigations against him for allegedly misappropriating over 30 million rupees to construct D.A. Rajapaksa Memorial Museum.

In his Writ, the former Defence Secretary stated that a political authority has ordered this investigation with an ulterior motive to have him remanded.

After the stay order was issued, notice was given to the 5 respondents including the Attorney General and the IGP.

When the Writ was taken up for consideration, Additional Solicitor General Dilrukshi Wickramasinghe, appearing for the Attorney General’s Department sought the permission of the Court to make submissions with regard to case.

However, lawyers appearing on behalf of the petitioner raised objections.

At that point, the Additional Solicitor General informed the court that she will file objections in the future.

Her request was permitted.
