President Maithripala Sirisena has appointed a Cabinet sub-committee comprising of Ministers Patali Champika Ranawaka, Dr. Sarath Amunugama, and Anura Priyadharshana Yapa to quickly solve the petrol crisis.
 
The President has also instructed to import petrol stocks from India to ease the shortage.
 


Although supplies have been increased, long queues could still be seen outside most of the fuel stations in many parts of the country.
 
During the last two days, 4,800MT of petrol have been issued to fuel sheds island-wide.
 
Our correspondents stated that the supply of petrol has been restricted to Rs. 1000 per car and Rs. 500 per motorcycle.
 
The Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development, however, stated that it has not instructed any petrol station owner to limit the amounts of petrol to be pumped per vehicle.
 
Meanwhile, it has been reported that cab operators have increased the fares as a result of the prevailing petrol shortage.

The prevailing petrol crisis was also discussed in Parliament today (07). Here, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe revealed 2 petrol shipments will arrive on the island tomorrow and day after.

He added then the prevailing issue will be normalized.

Meanwhile, speaking here, Minister Arjuna Ranatunga said he's being influenced to release a substandard fuel shipment imported by Lanka IOC.

He said he will not authorize the release, despite he's pressurized to do so.
