The Director of the Colombo National Hospital has confirmed that the 13 individuals remain hospitalised, after sustaining injuries during the police assault where tear gas was fired at protesters during the march launched by the Anti-SAITM Students' and Peoples' Movement.

Politburo Member of Frontline Socialist Party, Duminda Naagamuwa was one of those who sustained injuries.


A senior police spokesperson noted that Colpetty police arrested three students in connection with the incident.

They were later released after statements were recorded.

The Anti- SAITM protest march, commenced last evening (10) from the Viharamahadevi Park, to Thunmulla Junction, proceeded via Bambalapitiya to Galle Road up to Colpetty junction.

Police attempted to disperse the crowd, by deploying road blocks, and had to eventually resort to use tear gas.

In spite of these efforts, the protestors remained at the location.
