The Colombo High Court today granted bail to former Presidential Secretary, Lalith Weeratunga and the former Director General of Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Anusha Palpita.
They were ordered cash sureties of Rs. 100,000 each and 3 personal bails of Rs. 1 million each.
One of the personal surety should be a close relative. They were barred from going abroad and directed the passports to be handed over to courts.
The Colombo High Court delivering the verdict of the ‘Sil clothes’ case sentenced Weeratunga and Palpita to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment on 7th of September.
They were also fined Rs. 2 million each and the court ordered them to pay Rs. 50 million each in compensation to the TRC.
Weeratunga was also the chairman of the TRC at that time.
Thereafter, they filed an appeal at the Court of Appeal, seeking the verdict to be annulled.
