Head of Sri Lanka anti-doping regulations Authority professor Arjun de Siva states that if Kusai Janith is proved guilty of taking banned steroids there is a possibility that he may face a ban of up to 4 years. He mentioned the above when queried regarding the presence of traces of a banned steroid in the urine sample of the Sri Lankan cricketer Kusal Janith.
Sri Lanka wicketkeeper/batsman Kusal Perera has tested positive for a banned substance and has been sent home from their tour of New Zealand.
A statement from Sri Lanka Cricket said Kusal failed a random test during the recent tour of Pakistan.
Head of Sri Lanka anti-doping regulations Authority professor Arjun de Siva states that the world cricket council has reported this incident to him.
Professor Arjun de Silva -
ICC reported that such an incident has taken place. The first thing was to remove the player from the playground. The cricket board has done that. The next step should be the B sample, only if the B sample also indicates to be positive further steps will be taken. Then through the ICC disciplinary action will be taken. Professor Arjun de Silva stated that however, it is not a reason of excuse that an international player does not know about the drugs what he uses.
An international standard player should control as to what enters his body.
But if someone comes forward stating that they gave the prohibited substance then we can prove that the player is not guilty. If he player does not know how it was ingested, it is not a reason of excuse. The professor stated that the prohibited substance which was found in Kusal Janith’s urine sample belonged to the group to which maximum punishment could be given.
